How fees work
- Registering online is cheaper than by post: £100 against £124, and it's usually within 24 hours rather than 8 to 10 days.
- The confirmation statement fee is charged once per payment period. If you file a second statement in the same 12 months, there's nothing more to pay.source Read more about confirmation statements.
- A same-day name change costs more than the standard online fee. See how to change a company name for the forms and timings.
- Verifying your identity through GOV.UK One Login is free.source Agents who verify people for Companies House may charge their own fee; see identity verification.
- Fines are separate from fees. Not filing a confirmation statement is an offence, with a fine of up to £5,000, and the company can be struck off.source
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to register a company with Companies House?
£100 online, or £124 by post. Providers such as Tide and ANNA register companies too, at their own prices (Tide's includes a business account); see how to register a limited company and business bank accounts.
How much is the confirmation statement fee?
£50 online or £110 by post. You pay it once in each 12-month payment period, even if you file more than one statement.
Do dormant companies pay Companies House fees?
Yes. A dormant company still files a confirmation statement and pays the same fee. Paying Companies House fees doesn't stop a company counting as dormant. See dormant companies.
Is searching Companies House free?
Yes. Searching the register and viewing a company's filed documents online is free. You pay only for extras such as a certified copy by post (£22).
Is a trade mark a Companies House fee?
No. Trade marks are registered with the Intellectual Property Office, not Companies House. An online application for one class costs £205; see UK trade mark search.
